Run for Veterans
July 3-10, 2021, VIRTUAL Event – Run from anywhere!
We think it’s best to continue with a virtual race this year, knowing we’ll most surely get to race with you in person next year! We’ll miss seeing all of you and celebrating and supporting our Veterans together, but we can all still show up together virtually to race and raise money for the homeless and near-homeless Veterans served by 7hills.
The 12th Annual Run for Vets
Join us on July 4, 2021 as we celebrate our 12th Annual Run for Veterans race and walk. This event is a great way to kick off your holiday while giving back to Veterans in need in our community. It may be virtual this year but it’s still a great opportunity to get active, celebrate the Fourth of July, and support a great cause. For the virtual event, you can participate any time between Saturday, July 3rd and Saturday, July 10th, 2021. All proceeds benefit the homeless and near-homeless Veterans served by 7hills Homeless Center
Sorry, no refunds, it’s for the Vets!

Run for Veterans History
In 2009, Veterans Jon Benedict, Janet Stockton-Taylor, and Jerry Bailey had been supporting charitable events in our community for some time, but felt they had yet to achieve a dream of theirs: to combine their love of running with their desire to support Veterans in need.
On June 3, 2009,after many years of volunteering for other races and lots of planning, they committed themselves to the cause. The dream of having a race on the 4th of July to support Veterans was going to be a reality. Thirty-one days later, Run for Veterans was born. This first year, all proceeds went to support transportation costs for veterans attending the National Veterans Wheelchair Games – the largest wheelchair event of its kind in the world.
But in 2010, the mission changed when Veterans Affairs Secretary Eric Shinseki has made ending homelessness for Veterans his number one priority. Emboldened by Shinseki’s determination, Benedict, Stockton-Taylor, and Bailey were inspired to take their charity run in a whole new direction – a partnership with 7hills Homeless Center’s Veteran programming. To this day, this event supports Veterans within 7hills’s 3 programs. In 2016, the original race directors handed off the baton to a team of 4 previous and current employees of 7hills Homeless Center, and in 2018 the race became an official 7hills event. 2019 will be the 10th annual Run for Veterans race, and we’re excited to see you again this year. Our thanks to all the volunteers, sponsors, and runners who make this race possible.
